It is over 1,000 years old and the southern terminus of Camel caravans of the old trans-Sahara trade route to the Sudan and North Africa. Your tour of this historic city includes visits to the Emir’s (king) palace, the old City Walls, the 400 year old Grand Mosque; the Gidan Makama museum a fine example of traditional Hausa architecture; old Kurmi market – (Tuareg turbans, calabashes, old trading beads, leatherwork, spices, pottery, brass, textiles etc.); Kofar Mata Indigo dye pits where cloths are dyed in large vats sunk deep into the ground. The dyed cloth is dried and then beaten to obtain a high gloss. Shopping and sightseeing.
