Kano City Tour

This is a tour of the Hausa heartland. The ancient city of Kano is located about 760 miles north of Lagos. It is over 1,000 years old and the southern terminus of Camel caravans of the old trans-Sahara trade route to the Sudan and North Africa. Your tour of this historic city includes visits to the Emir’s (king) palace, the old City Walls, the 400 year old Grand Mosque; the Gidan Makama museum a fine example of traditional Hausa architecture; old Kurmi market – (Tuareg turbans, calabashes, old trading beads, leatherwork, spices, pottery, brass, textiles etc.); Kofar Mata Indigo dye pits where cloths are dyed in large vats sunk deep into the ground. The dyed cloth is dried and then beaten to obtain a high gloss. Shopping and sightseeing.

Tour schedule:

  • Pick up tourists from hotel or designated point
  • In the morning, visit museum, emir’s palace and other places of interest
  • Proceed to a city restaurant for a typical Nigerian lunch
  • In the afternoon, visit the old city wall, Kurmi market, etc.
  • Drive tourists back to hotel
