Benin-city is capital of the ancient rich and powerful Edo (Benin) kingdom. It is famous for its excellent royal court art, which brought pre-eminence to African art worldwide when in 1897, a British expeditionary force looted and carted Benin royal art treasures to Europe.  You will visit Benin Museum to view the royal collection of art on display, the royal palace of the Oba (king) of Benin dating back 900 ad., Chief Ogiamen’s house, a fine example of Benin traditional architecture that survived the 1897 British invasion, the Benin Moat (a proposed UNESCO World heritage site) reputed to be one of the longest man-made earth works in Africa. Watch craftsmen still producing bronze art objects by the lost – wax method along Igun street the famous family quarters of the ancient guild of Benin royal bronze casters. Choose from a variety of art objects while shopping at curio shops along airport road.

Tour schedule:

  • Pick up tourists from hotel or designated point
  • In the morning, visit museum, Oba’s palace, Ogiamen’s house and other places of interest
  • Drive to a city restaurant for a typical Nigerian lunch,
  • Visit Igun street, Benin moat, shopping and sightseeing.
