Abeokuta ‘city under the rock’ is famous for historical ‘Olumo Rock’, a fortress of the Egbas during the Yoruba civil wars of the early 1800s. It is the landmark from which the city derived its name. A live shrine and dwelling caves are preserved and a hike or elevator ride to the peak is rewarded with a panoramic view of the city. Lunch is at a city restaurant. Visit Itoku market home of Adire tie- dye fabrics for which the city is famous and the Obasanjo Presidential Library Complex to view memorabilia of the life of the former president.
